FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTRY CELEBRATES NATIONAL SHAHEED DAY

APS – February 19th, 2017.

ALGIERS-The Foreign Affairs Ministry has celebrated on February 19th the National Shaheed Day through a remembrance ceremony in memory of the martyrs (Shouhadas) of the glorious 1st November 1954 Revolution.
Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra and Minister of Maghreb Affairs, the African Union and the Arab League Abdelkader Messahel, mujahideen (veterans) and senior officials within the ministry attended this commemoration ceremony.
On this occasion, the national flag was raised and a wreath of flowers was laid at the commemorative stele erected on the esplanade of the Ministry in the memory of shouhadas.
Besides, Youcef Khatib, former leader of 5th historical Wilaya, held a conference on the Revolution and the Algerian people's struggle for independence, highlighting the sacrifices made by valiant shouhadas and mujahideen to restore national independence.
The Soummam platform had set the major political outlines of the Revolution and the organization of the Army, which led to the establishment of "leadership collegiality principles"
"Colonial authorities had never managed to destabilize the National Liberation Front party and the National Liberation Army (ALN) despite several operations carried out by the French military forces like the Challe plan (1959-1961) that aimed to destroy ALN units and dismantle FLN's politico-administrative organizations," said Colonel Si Hassen (named Khatib during the war).
Lamamra paid tribute to "all those who contributed to writing the Revolution history," calling on young generations to draw on the values and principles for which the Shouhadas and mujahideen scarified themselves.
